About

My name is Amber and I'm a wife, mom, and writer from the beautiful foothills of North Carolina. I'm a Christ-follower and I talk about that a lot because my life was forever changed thanks to Jesus. We're a homeschooling family, which means that during the day, you can usually find me in yoga pants and a t-shirt, covered in glitter, glue, and talking about history and grammar until my kids groan and roll their eyes.

Josh and I have been married for a little over a decade now (Wow, I feel old!). Seriously, he's my own Mr. Wonderful. We dated in a high school for a little while and ultimately ended up back together several years later through some very God-ordained circumstances.

Forgive me if I sound like I'm swooning, but I've learned to make every day count in my marriage. A couple of years ago, we found out Josh had a genetic heart condition called HCM. Just six months after his diagnosis, his heart started giving out and he had to have a really rare and risky open heart surgery. I was so close to losing him that now I tend to really hold him close. Living with heart disease is a big part of Josh's story, but he is using it to give God glory and I am so proud of him for that!

Josh is a church planter. After serving as a youth pastor and then a senior pastor for 8 years, he felt that God was calling him to something much different. We started this church planting journey in 2011. For the first 18 months, we lived on the coast and worked with a brand new church plant there. It was a season of learning and growing for both of us and now we are prayerfully working on planting a church in our home town.

We have two beautiful little children, although my dream is to someday have about 12! I have PCOS and doctors once told me I'd never have children at all. I've been incredibly blessed and God gave me not one, but two miracle babies! After many rounds of fertility treatments and a couple of devastating miscarriages, our dream of having a family began! I had to have a hysterectomy when Walker was 4 months old so having biological children is no longer a possibility for us. But we dream of adoption and hope that one day, God will make that a possibility for our family.

Ally is my oldest and she is 9 years old. She is a tiny little thing that looks like Tinkerbell and is constantly walking on her toes. She sings her way through life creating a new melody for everything from cleaning her room to taking a shower. We sometimes joke that living with Ally is like living with a Disney movie. Someone is always randomly breaking into a melodramatic song! Seriously though, I love this girl's heart for Jesus. She is already teaching me so much and I treasure the time I have with my special little miracle girl!

Walker is my youngest at 7 years old and he is a little firecracker! He is loud and wild and constantly telling jokes and making faces, but he is also very tender hearted. This is the kid that will carry home frogs, cover himself from head to toe in mud just for fun, and still ask me to marry him every single night. I love this little miracle boy and even though he's growing up, he'll always be my baby!

So that's the scoop on my family. We are just ordinary people trying to serve an extraordinary God. Our life is far from perfect, but it's very blessed!
